David's Day Off

Inspired by the iconic Doom David's Day Off was crafted for the 2023 Indiecade Hidden Heroes Game Jam. This project emerged from the collaborative brilliance of a dedicated team of senior capstone
students, developed within a stringent 48-hour timeline. Paying homage to our esteemed capstone professor, David Abzug, the game incorporates witty references to memorable anecdotes he shared.

Achievements
Secured 3rd place for both Overall and Gameplay at the game jam.
Handpicked for the BostonFIG 2023 Online Expo showcase.

Contribution
Primarily responsible for programming the game's interactive objects and the entire user interface. All of the games menus and maps were created and implemented by me, and I was also responsible for the implementation of the "Debug" mechanic, where objects can become solid or not solid by one press of the button. The design process for this particular game was interesting in that we only had 48 hours to complete the game, so I had to implement and iterate on my code multiple times in a very short period of time.

Behind the Scenes
Unshackled from academic constraints, David's Day Off was born of pure creativity and zeal. The absence of imposed class requirements, paired only with time constraints, allowed our passion to shine through every facet of the game. It wasn’t merely a diversion from our main senior project, but a testament to the freedom and innovation innate to game design.
